Magnetic Adapters

Aka-Ronan is a metal roundel with a 3D-polymer coating.
Adapts self adhesive polishing cloths to magnetic systems, in sizes 200 mm, 250 mm and 300 mm.

3D - surface

No trapped air pockets
During application of self adhesive polishing cloths it is vital to avoid the entrapment of air, as such air pockets reduce the life of the polishing cloth dramatically. A trapped air bubble creates a high point at which the cloth will be worn through in a very short time.
Aka-Ronan has a 3D-surface that eliminates the entrapment of air, during the application of a polishing cloth.
The 3D surface has been designed to avoid relief during polishing.

Rounded edge

No danger of injuring your fingers
Aka-Ronan has a rounded edge. Thus it is no longer dangerous to touch the edge like it still is on competing systems.
The magnetic discs surface stays clean and dry¹
The edge also makes sure the surface of the magnetic discs stays clean and dry, thus improving the lifespan of the magnetic discs.

Polymer magnets are not chemical resistant

Most magnetic discs use a polymer based magnet. Polymer magnets are not very chemical resistant, and are often attacked by the chemicals used in lubricants. Especially oil and ethanol penetrate the magnet and causes it to swell. This happens at the edge of the magnet which becomes un-plane and must be discarded.
The magnet is glued on
Often the polymer magnet is glued on to the supporting discs. If the glue is not fully chemical resistant, it will be attacked, just like the polymer magnet. Over time this causes the magnet to come off.
¹Some water can be sprayed up under the edge, due to turbolence in the equipment. The amount of water is depending on the design of the equipment, some are worse than others.

Clean fingers

Perhaps the best feature, according to many users. Gone are the dirty fingers always associated with metallographic sample preparation.
Abraded material is always deposited at the edge of a preparation surface, where you get it on your fingers while changing the surface. The rounded edge of Aka-Ronan makes it possible to clean the edge, while the disc is still rotating.
Keep a piece of paper towel pressed against the edge while the disc is rotating. The now clean Aka-Allegran can be lifted of, without getting dirty fingers.

Environment

Only the polishing cloth is discarded
Only the polishing cloth has to be discarded, while the Magnetic Adapter is used over and over again. With other magnetic systems, polishing cloth and steel plate are discarded.
